Advantages for City Water Supply — Superiority Found in its Economic Advantages — Very Useful for Small Stations

CITY water works plants recently constructed show a decided drift towards the steam turbine-driven centrifugal pump. In thermodynamic efficiency alone, the steam turbine and centrifugal pump combination does not as yet quite equal the reciprocating machine, the record performance of the 24,000,000, Imperial, gal., per day De Laval Pump at Toronto of 153,920,000 ft. lb. per 1,000 lb. of saturated steam at 145 lb. gauge being somewhat below the 202,000,000 ft. lb. shown in 1914 by reciprocating pumps using high steam pressure and superheat.
